David Cormie is a Director in Arup and the leader of Arup’s Resilience, Security and Risk practice. He is one of the world’s leading blast engineers and is a thought leader in structural engineering with an extensive track record influencing profession and practice. He leads a diverse, highly skilled and experienced team who help clients take informed decisions about safety risks, security risks and business risks in their organisations. His team help build resilience against hostile threats, accidents due to human factors and natural hazards, and he has an extensive project portfolio leading the protection of people, assets and operations in the design of critical infrastructure worldwide. He works closely with the rest of the design team to fully integrate security in multi-disciplinary design, leading to better outcomes whereby security and safety are built-in by design, yielding safer cities and more sustainable communities.
