Shabbir Merali is the Director of Intelligence at CogX, Policy Fellow at Onward think tank and Fellow at the University of Cambridge. He has conducted research at the intersection of AI and Economics and is the author of The Generative AI Revolution paper. He is a former Special Adviser to the Prime Minister, and former Economic Adviser to the Foreign Secretary, Secretary of State for International Trade and Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Before moving to Westminster, Shabbir worked in Finance at PwC, specialising in M&A financial modelling. He is a CFA charterholder and an ACA qualified chartered accountant. He also previously co-founded a tech start-up.
