Dr Emma Hughes is the Evaluation Lead for the AI in Health and Care Award, which is a £100m+ fund managed by the Accelerated Access Collaborative that will accelerate the testing and evaluation of the most promising AI technologies that meet the strategic aims set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.

The Award is split across four phases of maturity of the AI technologies and independent evaluations are being commissioned for the most mature to inform their onward adoption and scaling. The execution of these evaluations will provide practical learnings on how to conduct AI evaluations in real-world NHS settings, informing evidence standards.

Emma comes to the Award with experience in digital health and real-world evaluation from her work on the NHS Test Beds programme and leading the evaluation strategies for the Clinical Review of Standards and Rapid Diagnostic Centres.

Prior to the NHS Emma worked in a range of settings across academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and charity research funding.
