Born out of a desire to disrupt traditional gallery models, Unit London was founded in 2013 by Joe Kennedy and Jonny Burt. The team share the mission of supporting the world's most exciting artists, whilst making their work accessible to the widest possible audience. In 2018, Unit London opened their 6,000 ft gallery space on Hanover Square, in the heart of Mayfair.

Unit London have presented group and solo shows with artists including Ithell Colquhoun, Linder, Sthenjwa Luthuli, Suchitra Mattai, Barti Kher, Jenny Saville, Philip Colbert, Cydne Jasmin Coleby, Helen Beard and Annie Morris. The gallery has worked with curators such as David Anfam (Senior Consulting Curator, Clyfford Still Museum), Rachel Thomas (Senior Curator, Irish Museum of Modern Art), Aindrea Emelife (Writer and Curator) and Azu Nwagbogu (Founder and Director of African Artists' Foundation).

Affirming their dedication to pioneering new gallery models, in 2020 Unit London launched Platform, an innovative virtual exhibitions programme designed to give artists a dedicated and focused space to showcase their works and spark conversations around socio-cultural and political issues. In line with these principles, a portion of all proceeds from each exhibition are donated to a charity or non-profit organisation chosen by the artists.

In 2021 they were part of the team behind Institut, the first art world led platform for NFTs. The inaugural exhibition 'NFTism: No Fear in Trying', curated by Kenny Schachter, convened more than 100 artists working at the cutting edge of their field.

Kennedy and Burt are on the advisory boards of several art prizes, fairs and awards and act as young patrons of various cultural institutions including Tate, the Serpentine Gallery and the Royal Academy. In 2019, they were named as one of Forbes’ 30 under 30 entrepreneurs for their contributions to the global art & culture industries.
