John Godfrey has worked for US, Japanese and European financial institutions in the City of London for over thirty-five years. He joined Legal & General in 2006, and over the following decade was responsible variously for group communications, public policy issues, CSR and the group brand. He is a member of the Group Executive Committee, and the Group Environment Committee and sits on the Management Board of the L&G-funded Advanced Care Research Centre at Edinburgh University.

From 2016 to 2017, John worked at Number Ten Downing Street as Head of Policy for Prime Minister Theresa May, where his team was responsible for advice on a broad range of UK domestic issues. He re-joined Legal & General as Corporate Affairs Director following the 2017 General Election. He is a Financial Inclusion Commissioner and Chairman of Business for Health.

John was educated at Lochaber High School and Oxford University and has also served as a special advisor to the Home Secretary.
